NEW BARRACK TAVERN GOES WILD

As part of National Wildlife Week in June, Sheffield's New Barrack Tavern did its bit to attract a new sort of regular. Typical of other Tynemill / C Castle Rock city centre pubs, nest boxes, feeding tables and flower tubs with bird attracting flora were laid out by pub managers, Steph and Kevin Woods, keen to play a part in the national scheme to increase the bio diversity of the urban environment. Steph Woods says, "You might be surprised that a pub on a busy street and in the heart of a working area can do something like this. But there are a lot of birds and insects that I am sure our regulars will enjoy having as company as they sup a pint to two." In Nottingham, the Newshouse and Vat and Fiddle pubs also marked the week with The Canalhouse, pub and restaurant, using its unique location to foster waterside life.
